To work through your loneliness, you
need to spend some time alone which will help you examine yourself more
closely. Learn to relax, feel better about yourself and accept that there is
nothing wrong with how you are feeling and everything will get better with some
time and effort on your part.
Some Steps to Help You Overcome Loneliness
- First Stop listening to sad and lonely songs
- If you have some negative people in your life, always putting you down, you need to break contact with them
- Make sure that you lead a well balanced life with good nutrition, exercise and sufficient sleep.
- Constantly remind yourself that the loneliness is only temporary and you will get over it
- Reflect on all your good and happy memories.
- Learn a new skill, the success in achieving something will boost your moral
- Put yourself in new situations where you can meet new people and casually talk to them
- Take part in activities which you have a genuine interest in and socialize with people of similar interest.
- Learn to open yourself up to others first and they will follow
- Be a friend to others, without expecting anything in return
- Don’t rush the friendship by sharing too much too soon, friendships need the time to develop before others will share with you.
Once you have worked through some of the above steps and
feel ready to venture out of
your comfort zone to interact with the world again and only then participate in
the activities and meet new people.
I came across an e-book that I read by an unknown author
about loneliness and what stood out to me loud and clear was the following:
- Loneliness is due to the failure of loving ourselves which affects our ability to love others. We must learn to love ourselves first
- People react to you by the signals you give off which is caused by your thoughts and feelings of what you think about yourself. If you ‘project’ negative signals people will reject you unconsciously.
A good way to
start is to write down your thoughts and feelings and then talk about them with
someone you are close to. Always try to be good to yourself by thinking positive
things and convincing yourself that you are a fun, loving and attractive person
and you will see that in time people will love to be around you.
